Background of Establishment

Yokohama City is a sister city to Mumbai, India (signed in 1965) and has a long history of trade, economy, and cultural exchanges with India. Historically, the port of Yokohama opened in 1859, but four years later, Indians had already started doing business in Yokohama. For India, Yokohama was Japan's first economic hub. In addition, Yokohama has a track record of active economic exchange with overseas companies, and has established five foreign centers in the city, including GCIT (German Industrial Center), BIC (British Industrial Center), and TVP (American Industrial Center), and is actively working to attract foreign companies. In addition to these circumstances, the relationship between Yokohama and India is about to take a new turn in recent years. Two of India's three largest software companies, Tata and Wipro, have successively chosen Yokohama as their base for their expansion into Japan. As if to follow suit, other Indian companies are also taking an interest in Yokohama. On the other hand, more than 20 companies from Yokohama and Kanagawa are currently based in India in search of attractive markets. In addition, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., which has a large influence in Yokohama and Kanagawa, announced plans to establish a production plant in India. It is expected that these developments on both sides will further increase the momentum for promoting economic exchanges between India and Yokohama in the future. (2008.10)

Chairman's Greetings

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the business communities of Japan and India, the government and related organizations, and the members of the Yokohama India Center for their continued support and cooperation.

Yokohama India Centre was established in February 2009 as a general incorporated association with the aim of promoting not only business but also cultural, tourism and people-to-people exchanges between Japan and India, based in Yokohama and Kanagawa. I will continue to make further efforts with this mission in mind. Japan and India are not just economic partners, but are deeply connected by historical ties and friendly people. We aim to strengthen this connection so that companies, organizations and individuals in both countries can learn, grow, thrive and explore new possibilities for each other.

An important part of our activities is not only business, but also cultural tourism and people-to-people exchanges. Many people have deepened the bonds between our two countries through the Yokohama India Center. And that bond is more than just a transactional relationship, leading to a shared culture and values, and building trust between people.

We focus not only on business success, but also on connecting people's hearts and deepening mutual understanding. Through cultural events and personnel exchanges, we have introduced the diverse cultures, traditions, and values of Japan and India, and helped deepen mutual understanding. In this way, we have built a stronger friendly relationship and contributed to the sustainable development of our two countries.

This website provides information on the activities and activities of the Yokohama India Centre. It will also provide useful information and resources to the business communities of Japan and India, and will provide a variety of events and exchanges to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries. We would like to express our gratitude for your interest in the activities of the Yokohama India Center and for visiting this website.

Lastly, Yokohama India Centre would like to go beyond the boundaries of business and be a bridge between people, regions and regions, and countries to countries. We are sincerely looking forward to working with you to achieve further development in the future, and we look forward to your continued support and guidance.
